Trademarks, patents, geographical signs and utility models were being regulated through various decree laws and this constituted a hardship for practitioners of law and lecturers alike. At long last, in early 2017, the new Industrial Property Law came into force which consolidated all of these decree laws and created a unified codification. That was a revision long-overdue.
Unlike many national codes and laws, Industrial Property Law is highly integrated with international agreements and conventions. Even the very terms used in the Law are mostly translations from original texts. Therefore a proper translation of this law was somewhat crucial, especially given the large scale practice of international IP law in Turkey.
